Pleasant Hill Elementary Walk N Roll started in 2019 when creator Cara DeJong, together with a small group of parents, launched the first EVER weekly Walk N Roll program. What began with just 20 kids biking to school quickly grew. On day one of Walk N Roll, 125 students and families joined the movement! Now in its fourth year, led by Cat Hodgson, the program averages 145 bikes and scooters on Walk N Roll Wednesday, with a total of 230 student walkers, rollers and carpoolers each week! The sustainable and consistent growth of active transportation at the school is apparent in the carryover of the weekly Walk N Roll program on other days of the week: the average bike and scooter count is 100 on non-Walk N Roll days! PHE is a leader in showing how active transportation can transform a community.
